C & H Merrill, Inc. Puts its Thermal Energy Storage (TES)
Experience to Use for A Florida Office and Storage Complex
Teamed with David
Meadows (the developer) and RELCO Unlimited, C&H Merrill, Inc. was awarded the contract
to provide site and building mechanical engineering utilizing TES
concepts. The object was to design a
Thermal Energy
Storage System (TES) for a 150,000 sq. ft. office/ warehouse complex to
include eight buildings. "The TES works by placing a 20’x 30’x 14’
pool into the ground and filling it with cold water. The water is
made cold at night when the cost of electricity is less and used to
cool the buildings during the day." says Curtis McAdams, Senior
Design Engineer for C&H Merrill, Inc. The cold water is pumped through
pipes to cold water air handlers located in each building, which cool the air in the building
providing a comfortable indoor environment for building tenants. The
site is located in beautiful
Orlando, Florida.

C & H Merrill, Inc. provides Machine Design Expertise
to Local Theme Park.
Have you ever seen a thirty
foot vacuum cleaner? C&H Merrill worked with Orlando based IES
Design Group to design a 30’ tall by 10’ diameter vacuum
cyclone system for a local theme park in Orlando, Florida. IES
Design provided the structural foundation design required to support
10 ton system, while C&H Merrill, Inc. provided the Machine Design
aspects. The vacuum sucks garbage to the
top of the 30’ stainless steel can where a cyclonic separator swirls
the garbage around using kinetic energy. The energy keeps the
garbage swirling on the outside wall. Then gravity accelerates
it down to the collection hopper. The collection hopper stores the
garbage until it is ready to be compacted and disposed.
Electrical Controls, Installation and Programming provided to
Hydro Aluminum for Their New Product Line.
The contract for this
project was awarded to C & H Merrill, Inc. at the beginning of the
year. The scope included the design, installation and
programming for controls to produce a new product line at
Hydro Aluminum. This project had strict requirements some of
which required the new line be installed while the system was
running. Curtis McAdams, Senior Design Engineer for C&H
Merrill, Inc. provided the design and on site ladder logic
programming for the project . C&H Merrill, Inc. subcontracted
Rich Electric of Palm Bay, Florida
to provide the power distribution
for the new line.
MEP Engineering provided By C&H Merrill, Inc. for the Lofts Condos
in Downtown Melbourne Florida.
RELCO a division C & H
Merrill, Inc. is providing Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing
Engineering for The Lofts
at Waverly Condominiums to be located in
downtown Melbourne, Florida. C&H Merrill, Inc. was awarded the
contract in November of 2006. The Lofts is a MEP job for
a ten story condominium complex for the Legacy group. It is going to
go behind Meg ‘o’ Malleys in historical
Down Town Melbourne. The
parking lot behind Meg’s will be torn up to put in the new condos.
The structure will have seven parking levels, with the ground level
for public parking. The fourth floor will have eight condo units
plus a club house, patio, pool, spa, and exercise area. Floors five
through nine will have 10 units ranging from 994 sq. ft. to 1,900
sq. ft. The tenth floor will have five condos that range from 2,074
sq. ft. to 3,177 sq. ft. It totals to 63 living spaces.. RJ Vidimsky,
president of RELCO. states that "I hopes to have the project
finished by the end of January ’08"
