C & H Merrill's Dave Merrill Featured in SATOP
Quarterly Publication
The
Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP), funded by NASA,
publishes some of their success stories every quarter (Check
out "C&H Merrill Joins SATOP! below) . The magazine also
includes an alliance partner engineer's profile who provides support
to small businesses that request technical assistance from SATOP.
Dave Merrill was chosen to be interviewed as this quarters'
engineer.
"I
was absolutely thrilled" said Dave when asked about the interview.
"Those guys (SATOP) are fun to work with, and they provide us with a
lot of different challenges. But it's not just me, Curtis
McAdams is another engineer here at C&H Merrill that also provides
assistance. Curtis comes up with solid, simple and cost effective
solutions that small businesses need."
Nevertheless, if you are a small business and require technical
assistance (up to 40 hours free) contact the good people at
SATOP and maybe Dave
and Curtis can help you out.

C&H Merrill, Inc. Builds A Positioner
For The United States NAVY!
Know anyone IN THE NAVY? The most recent work of C & H Merrill,
Inc., the Mobile Transducer Positioner, positions underwater acoustic
transducers and arrays for test and calibration. C & H Merrill,
Inc. designed, developed and installed what we call the “Positioner”
for the United States Navy. The positioner has a two ton capacity
and moves vertically, horizontally and with azimuth along a 30’
long by four foot wide test well. Unlike the current positioners used
by the Navy, this positioner utilizes remote movement capabilities
whereas the others do not. This positioner will replace the current
positioners used by the Navy. (up)
07/15/03 C & H Merrill Helps Out The Boat
Shows At Sea World!
Have you ever been to Sea World in Orlando, Florida??? How about the
boat shows at Sea World? If you have, you probably saw the drawbridge
there that allows the boats to go into and out of the marina. That’s
our work!
The
automated, 90 degree actuated drawbridge at Sea World allows boats
to cross from one side of a body of water to the other. C &
H Merrill, Inc. designed, developed and installed the mechanics
for that “Rotating Bridge” in the early part of 2003. (up)
06/15/03 C & H Merrill Gives Disney World
Passengers A Lift!
Unless you rode the monorail to The Magic Kingdom at Disney World
in Orlando, Florida, you took the ferryboat. Yep, we designed, developed
and installed the automated gangway lift system used to load and
unload passengers from the ferryboats. If you didn’t notice
them before, you will now! (up)
04/01/03 C & H Merrill Brings Marina Up
To Code!
Have you ever heard of Provincetown? No not Providence Rhode Island.
Provincetown Massachusetts, a small town located on Cape Cod. Well,
because it is less time consuming to take a ferryboat from Boston
to Provincetown than to drive in the manic Boston traffic, many
people do so to get to the boats in Provincetown to go whale watching.
The ADA standard requires marinas to have Handicap Access at the
ports and you will never guess who designed, developed and installed
them……..Okay, maybe you will………Just
in case you have a shadow of a doubt……..US!!!!!!
Our servo driven, three-axis, fully automated self-leveling lift
for Handicap Access to marinas traverses, self-levels with the tide
and lifts passengers up and down the gangways. The “Handy-Lift”
is quite a sight to behold! (up)
02/15/03 C & H Merrill Builds A Rollercoaster
For Ball Bearings!
Imagine a really cool rollercoaster ride. What would it be like?
How about this: We call it “THE CHAMBER”. You get on
the ride. It takes you into a holding chamber. It moves slowly in
a circle until suddenly you are DROPPED into “The Cleaning
Chamber” where they SOAK you with water. Before you know what
is going on you ZIP through a few doors and are THROWN into another
chamber where they LEVITATE you and warm you until you are dry.
Then to make sure you don’t overheat, while still levitated
they BLAST you with cool air before dropping you through a TRAP
door that leads to the outside.
Well, this is similar to what our Automated Levitation Chamber at
Marshall Space Flight Center does to make perfectly spherical ball
bearings that are used for space applications.
C & H Merrill, Inc. designed, developed and installed this pressure/vacuum
levitation chamber in the first part of 2003. The system consists
of an Automated Feed Section, and a Levitation Chamber that interfaces
with existing chambers. I bet you never pictured yourself as a ball
bearing before! (up)

C & H Merrill Lets The Picture Do The Talking!
Because this application is confidential, we must let the picture
do the talking. What we can tell you about this product is that
C & H Merrill, Inc. designed and developed automated sequencing
of up to 60 hydraulic cylinders and special power units and manifolds
for those cylinders. (up)
